There’s a Hole in My Sidewalk:

In today’s blog we are going to share a very potent story as told by Wayne Dyer.  The story is published in the book

There’s a Hole in My Sidewalk: The Romance of Self-Discovery by Portia Nelson (click for amazon page)

Now, Wayne was a self-help guru of sorts and I have my strong opinions about the entire industry and its efficacy but let us not allow personal opinions and prejudices to stop the learning process, and let us not discard individual gems just because Industry is full of charlatans (kind of like our finance industry)  If you are a trader/investor worth your salt, this particular story will resonate with you at a very deep level.

Here is the story verbatim.

” Chapter 1. I walk down the street, There is a deep hole on the sidewalk. I fall in, I am lost, I am helpless, It isn’t my fault and it takes forever to find the way out.

Chapter 2. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole on the sidewalk. I pretend I don’t see it. I fall in again. I can’t believe I am in the same place, it isn’t my fault. It still takes a long time for me to get out.

Chapter 3. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole on the sidewalk. I see it there, I still fall in. It is a HABIT. But my eyes are OPEN. I know where I am and it is my OWN FAULT and I get out immediately.

Chapter 4.  I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole on the sidewalk. I walk around it.

Chapter 5. Finally, I walk down another street.”

Read these 5 lines at least 5 times each. It will hit you. We repeat the same mistakes again and again until we own them. Smart few among us don’t even venture into areas where there is NO edge or if the edge is not worth the health and other risk.
